Behavioral systems influenced by hormones

- the behavior should cease when the hormone is removed or blocked
- once the behavior stops, it should occur again with the return of the hormone
- if there is a low concentration of the hormone, less of that behavior is observed; if there is a high concentration, then there is more of that behavior observed

Oxytocin is a nine-amino-acid-long hormone and neuropeptide that is synthesized in the hypothalamus and released into various brain regions as well as the circulatory system. It is involved in labor, breastfeeding, maternal care, sexual behaviors, and there is growing evidence for its role in broad social behaviors. Additionally, there is evidence linking dysregulation of oxytocin to psychopathology.

Positioned on top of the kidneys, the adrenal glands are responsible for releasing hormones, including epinephrine and norepinephrine, which are crucial for the body's stress response.

Adrenal Gland

Glands that release chemicals to the interior of the body
(From the Greek "Endon"= within)
"krinein"= to secrete
