A recommendation presentation must conclude with a specific ask rather than an open-ended prompt such as "What do you think?". An effective ask explicitly states three components: the exact decision being requested, the specific individual from whom the decision is required, and the target deadline by when the choice must be made.

Specific Ask

A decision record is a formal written summary created within one day of a recommendation decision to document what was resolved and what happens next before memories drift. A standard decision record captures five elements: the approved decision, designated owners for implementation and staffing, agreed-upon stop rules or operational thresholds, scheduled milestone check-ins, and pending open items alongside their delivery deadlines.
