The process of taking numerical data and turning it to categorical data. The most common method is binning, it is usually done with continous data and it involves grouping data by into different categories based on their numerical values. An example would be a list of height measurements we can make an assumption that people who are shorter than 5'5" are short and would be given a label short while people who are taller than 5'5" would be given the label tall. 

Turning Quantitative Data to Qualitative Data 

The case of qualitative analysis of quantitative data applies when we use quantitative data to interpret (qualitatively analyze) the data.  It can involve searching for patterns in the data to understand the "meaning."

Both data and analysis can be either qualitative or quantitative, meaning that there are four possible types of data and analysis combinations as follows: 

-  Quantitative analysis of quantitative data
-  Quantitative analysis of qualitative data
-  Qualitative analysis of quantitative data

Qualitative data is often refered to as categorical data becuase it consists of non-numerical data. The most commoan data types it is stored in is often Boolean or Text. This data is often collected through conducting interveiws or observations. Qualitative data is often more subjective than quantitve data. When using Qualitative data for Statistical learning, it is often within a classification problem. 

Qualitative Data 

Quantitative data is referred to as Continuous or Discrete data because it comprised of numerical data. This data is commonly stored in data types of Integer, Float, and Double. When using Quantitative data for Statistical learning it is often used in regression problems to predict a numerical output such as percent increase or decrease. This data is a an objective measurement.

The case of qualitative analysis of qualitative data applies when we use qualitative data to interpret (qualitatively analyze) the data.  The qualitative data -(e.g.) texts- can be used to interpret and understand the meanings and underlying themes such as feelings of the subjects.  It allows for different interpretations, thus potentially a variety of different conclusions depending on the interpreters.  

Qualitative Analysis of Qualitative Data

Often times, statistical methods rely on measuring the distance between quantitative data points. However, there are various ways to measure this distance. These include:

1. Euclidean distance 
2. Manhattan distance
3. Hamming Distance
