Pregnancy Associated Arbovirus Infections

Cytokines produce inflammatory conditions that caused joint and tissue damage. The proliferation of osteoclasts produce bone erosion. The Aedes species of mosquitoes are the vectors for this disease.

Chikungunya Pathogenesis/Vector

Clinical manifestations of Chikungunya in pregnant women include fever, headache, rash, photophobia, bone density alterations and chronic bone and joint disease.

Maternal Chikungunya Infection Presentation

Fetal abnormalities include congenital malformations, still births, uterine growth retardation and fetal heart defects.

Fetal/Neonatal Anomalies from Chikungunya

IgM/IgG-ELISA and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) diagnostic tests are used to detect Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infections.
